News, Calendar, and Information for the 2012 Season

Hello All,

Happy new year to everyone and I hope 2012 is a happy, healthy and a successful golfing year.
Mr Turner has worked very hard over the winter season producing this new web site for us all, so please take a look around the new pages and see whats on offer for 2012.

I am updating the lessons calendar now, so please continue to check the calendar for all the classes that we will be offering throughout the year.
Towards the later part of 2011 I purchased a IPAD2 and in conjunction with the V1 software am now using this state of the art technology to enhance your lesson and improve the teaching experience. A lot of players learn better visually than just verbally, so I hope you will all enjoy the added service.

I will be away in Portugal teaching until the middle of February and then I will be in Turkey, again teaching, the first week in March. Our season normally kicks off towards the end of March and I will be back and eager to begin teaching by then. My only other time away will be in July for the British Open. This year it is being played at Royal Lytham St Annes in the north of England. Its a great venue and I will once again be accompanying Tiger in his quest to resurrect his major wins! I know not everyone is a fan, but wish us luck anyway!!

I know a few people have already approached me about a trip in March sometime, and I will look at the possibility of a trip during this time. If anyone else is interested please contact me as soon as you can expressing your interest, and I will see what I can do. Thank you once again to the 15 golfers that went on the Spain trip, it really was a great trip playing on a fantastic course, oh to be there now!!

All the 'get golf ready' beginner classes were fully booked last year so please book early if you, or someone you know, would like to join us this year, the dates of all the classes will be on this site very soon. I have been approached about conducting a 5 day intensive beginner class during the day for possible Mothers who are able to drop off their children at school and then join the golf class. If you are interested in this please contact me and let me know, and I will do my very best to make this happen.
The kids classes and all the dates for these will also be posted soon.

There are a couple of new services we will be offering this year:

Lunchtime 'Keep on track' Swing Checkup

This will be on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday lunchtime from 12-1pm and split into 4 fifteen minute lessons slots. You can pre-book one of theses slots via the pro shop to guarentee the 15 minute slot, or you can just turn up, but this may mean that the slot is already taken. The cost will be $20 per 15 minute slot.
This is aimed at players that have already taken lessons and would just like to ensure that they are still 'on track' during their practice time over lunch.

Club Loft and Lie Check

Come and have your loft and lie of your irons checked to ensure the correct loft and lie's are in place, and if they need to be adjusted. Only forged clubs can be adjusted. Most clubs tend to move at least a degree or so during a seasons play! This should be available by the end of March ready for the new season.

Again thank you all for your continued support. I have had many letters and messages from golfers here at Woodlawn expressing their thanks and gratitude for the lessons they have received over the 2011 season. May I say it is an honour and privilege to serve at Woodlawn golf course as the teaching professional. Please feel free to pop in and speak with me on a personal basis if you have any questions or issues during the season. My contact details are;

swingSWING

KEEP IT SMOOTH

Hovering the club head at the address position not only allows you to take the club away smoother, but also keeps your arms and hands relaxed.
Start smooth. The back swing should not be rushed, feel the club head swing back smoothly.

Turn behind the ball. You should try to get your back facing the target as you turn away from the ball keeping your arms and hands relaxed. Then unwind! The finish position is vital. Try to ensure your belt buckle is facing the target and you are in a relaxed, balanced finish position.

Try to look at some swings from the legendary Ernie Els. This is a great swing to watch and to learn from. Watch the relaxation and tempo in his swing, you will see why he is called the 'big easy'!!
